    The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce has an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant team as a Community Engagement Coordinator.

    Formed in 1889, the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in Sault Ste. Marie. Our ongoing advocacy role includes addressing government policies, programs and actions affecting member businesses as well as the community. The local Chamber facilitates enhancement of the economic climate; identifies education and training opportunities; improves relationships with government, business agencies and labour organizations. We provide many opportunities for businesspeople to network, get connected to business opportunities and invest in their business and community.

    Reporting to the Director of Operations & Policy, you will assist with the planning, organization, promotion, communications, and execution of all events and programs held throughout the year including the implementation of the Strategic Plan.

    Qualifications:  

    This position is made possible through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. To be eligible to apply, applicants:

    • must qualify under the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation
    • are new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or are unemployed or underemployed and are entering a new field
    • have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship
    • are at least 18 years of age
    • must reside in, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada

    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    • Strong project management and organizational skills
    • Professional demeanor
    • Outstanding presentation, writing, editing, proofreading and verbal skills
    • Ability to think creatively and critically while working both individually and as an active participant in a small, cross-functional team environment
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and duties with competing deadlines
    • Able to work within deadlines
    • Schedule flexibility for attendance at events internally and externally

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the coordination, event planning, registration, logistics and marketing of Chamber of Commerce virtual, hybrid and in person events including: provide administrative support for Chamber of Commerce events, handle event registrations, assist with event set up and registration on-site, prepare event registration lists, and process credit card payments.
    • Design marketing & promotional plans and materials, work plans for Chamber of Commerce programs and events as assigned, and manage various projects with professionalism and precision.
    • Work directly with event sponsors to ensure sponsorship commitments are met.
    • Assist with the administration & maintenance of the Chamber of Commerce website and social media platforms.  Investigate the use of AI whenever possible.
    • Provide administrative support for Chamber of Commerce events. Handle event registrations, assist with event set up and registration on-site, and prepare event registration lists, process credit card payments.
    • Participate/Assist in the coordination and collaboration with various stakeholders, such as the City of Sault Ste. Marie, SSM Economic Development team, SSM Innovation Centre, Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation, Community Development Corporation, and other agencies, as well as venues, educational institutions, and industry associations, to support various Chamber of Commerce initiatives and/or projects.
    • Development of surveys questions from time-to-time as needed, monitor and assist with implementation of our Strategic Plan, and assist the Chamber with national accreditation efforts.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Experience:

    • Educational background in one, or more, of the following fields of study: event management, communications, marketing, business development / management, business administration.
    • Social media fluency in Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn and Youtube
    • Experience working with online subscriber-based e-mail platforms (i.e. Constant Contact, Mail Chimp).
    • Experience developing surveys, distribution, analysis of results.

    Competencies:

    • Basic knowledge in graphic design and use of Canva
    • Basic understanding of database management systems
    • Competency in Microsoft Windows Professional 8.1 including: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

    This is a full-time, 52-week work term (35 hours / week) commencing July 6, 2026 with one of the area’s most respected business organizations.
