    Shop Local. Listen Local. Dine Local. Play Local. LOVE Local!”
     
    Sault Ste. Marie, ON -- The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is calling on everyone in the community to ‘Love Local’ businesses.  ‘Love Local’ is a new campaign launched by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday afternoon which will highlight the importance, and benefits, of shopping locally and supporting the local small businesses that drive a large portion of the local economy.
     
    The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber’s ‘Love Local’ campaign will include a significant local marketing component made possible through funding provided by the Government of Canada through Shop Local, a Canada-wide investment of $33 million to encourage Canadians to shop locally. Nearly $9 million of that total is being invested in Ontario, through the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, to support businesses in reopening and staying open so they can thrive as the economy recovers.
     
    “Small businesses are cornerstones of our local economies and key to thriving communities – creating jobs, driving innovation, inspiring and supporting our local charities, our arts and cultural groups, and our childrens’ sports teams. Local businesses have always been there for us and now they need our support more than ever,” noted SSMCOC CEO, Rory Ring.
     
    Locally, the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce will receive $135,000 to invest in local marketing to encourage support of local small businesses. The investment will be made through local media, including newspapers, online, television, and radio, starting in October and will cover the important Black Friday, Christmas, Boxing Day and Valentine’s Day shopping seasons.
     
    Wednesday’s announcement was made at Joe’s Sports and Surplus, a long-time cornerstone of Sault Ste. Marie’s retail community. The Chamber was joined by Joe’s Sports’ co-owner Steve Meating and Sault Ste. Marie MP, Terry Sheehan.
     
    “Supporting our local businesses remains a top priority for me.  I am so pleased the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce received funding from the Government of Canada’s Shop Local funding initiative,” said Sheehan. “This program was designed to be flexible to allow local chambers of commerce to make decisions based on regional knowledge, which best suits local needs and priorities. Helping small businesses get through the pandemic will enable them to recover in the short term so they can thrive in the future.”
     
    The Sault Ste. Maie Chamber of Commerce campaign will deliver a consistent message: “Shop Local. Listen Local. Dine Local. Play Local. LOVE Local!”
