    The Chamber is looking for innovators, contributors, and leaders for its annual Outstanding Business Achievement Awards

    Sault Ste. Marie - The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (SSMCOC) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting nominations for its annual Outstanding Business Achievement Awards.
     
    “We are very pleased to welcome Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation back as our title sponsor for this year’s Awards,” notes SSMCOC president, Michael Stone. “As a Chamber, support from our member businesses and agencies is fundamental. OLG has proven to be a leader and an engaged member of our local business community. Further, OLG demonstrates the professional excellence within its industry that exemplifies the spirit of our Awards program.”
     
    The annual SSMCOC Outstanding Business Achievement Awards recognize businesses, organizations, and agencies that have made significant strides in overall growth and success, safety, diversification and accessibility, employee relations, customer service, innovation, and exporting. Additionally, the Chamber will recognize the successes and community contributions made by several individual business leaders.
     
    This year’s award categories include:
    • Business of the Year Awards (3 categories: up to 9 employees, 10 to 25 employees, 26+ employees)
    • Community Non-Profit Business of the Year Award
    • Downtown Business of the Year Award
    • Indigenous Business of the Year Award
    • Community Investment Awards (3 categories: up to 9 employees, 10 to 25 employees, 26+ employees)
    • Beyond Sault Ste. Marie Awards (2 categories: up to 49 employees, 50+ employees)
    • Innovation Award
    • Safe Work, Sound Business Award
    • Employer of the Year Award
    • Leader in Accessibility Award
    • Diversity Award
    • Rising Star New Business Award
    • Customer First Award - Business, Non-Profit or Agency
    • Indigenous Professional of the Year Award
    • Customer First Award - Individual
    • Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
     
    The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, January 13th, 2021. Anyone wishing to nominate a local Chamber-member business or organization can visit https://www.ssmcoc.com/2020-business-awards for details and online nomination.
     
    “Without a doubt, 2020 has challenged businesses like never before in our life-time, but our local business community has shown its resiliency, its ingenuity and its resourcefulness. We have local businesses that have demonstrated an ability to pivot to meet new demands and to survive,” adds Stone. “We have local businesses, organizations, and agencies that are genuinely innovative, that continually strive to find new ways to engage their customers, and that have adapted unique business practices that set them apart from their competition.”
     
    “The last year has clearly demonstrated that our small and our local businesses are the backbone of Sault Ste. Marie’s economy,” says Rory Ring, Chief Executive Officer of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce. “We hope to showcase those businesses that have supported our community, that create local jobs and sponsor our events, our fundraisers and our kids’ sports teams. We hope that our Chamber members and members of the community will take to take a few minutes to nominate a business or organization that they feel is deserving of an award for their efforts and hard work.”
     
    The Outstanding Business Achievement Awards will be handed out on Saturday, February 27th, 2021 at the Chamber’s annual OBAA “Reaching for the Stars” celebration. This will mark the first time that the event will be held virtually, in light of COVID-19.
     
    The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Awards are being presented in partnership with Sootoday.com and Rolling Pictures.
     
    “While we look forward to when we can host our awards gala in-person again, we are extremely excited to see what we can do virtually this year,” says Ring. “We are proud to be working once again with Sootoday.com and to also welcome Rolling Pictures as our presenting sponsors.
