David McHattie
Tenaris
Since David joined Tenaris in 1999 to help found the Canadian operations, he has held leadership roles in Canada including Marketing, Strategic Planning and now Institutional Relations where he develops and implements stakeholder strategies creating a healthy business environment for Tenaris to grow sustainably. Dave helped develop plans for and integrate investments including projects more than $100M and acquisitions valued over $1B.
Dave is the Trade policy lead for Tenaris in Canada and participates on the North American Steel Trade Committee since 2006. He has successfully fought for fair trade in Canada for manufacturing by leading successful anti-dumping Trade Actions at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.
Dave holds an MBA in International Business, Strategy, and Marketing (University of Illinois) and degrees in Business (University of Regina), Public Administration and History from (University of Saskatchewan).
Rory Johnston
Commodity Context
Rory Johnston is a researcher and widely quoted expert in global commodities markets, specializing in the North American energy industry. He is currently working on a variety of research and investment projects including Commodity Context, an independent commodity market research platform, as well as both public market portfolio and private equity strategy at Price Street, a family office. Rory previously led commodity economics research at a major, resource-focused Canadian bank where he advised executives and clients, sat on the bank’s credit committee for commodity-related sectors, and oversaw the bank’s official commodity price forecasts.
Stephen Flewelling, P.Eng.
Stephen (Steve) Flewelling is Chief Development Officer at Noront Resources with more than 30 years of worldwide mining executive experience including exploration, feasibility planning, project development, construction and operations experience. Before joining Noront, Steve was Senior Vice President, Projects & Exploration at Glencore/Xstrata Nickel with responsibility for the company’s project pipeline including worldwide exploration and project development as well as the company’s business performance improvement and technical services programs. Additionally, he held numerous senior positions at Glencore/Xstrata and predecessor companies, including the role of President at Falcondo, a laterite mining and ferronickel smelting facility in the Dominican Republic and Senior Vice President of Projects and Engineering for Falconbridge Limited. Steve is a graduate of the Engineering program at Queens University.
Scott Volk
Tourmaline
Scott Volk is the Technology and Innovation Lead at Tourmaline Oil Corp., Canada’s largest natural gas producer. Mr. Volk and his team are focused on developing and implementing sustainable innovation. In addition, he sits on the Natural Gas Innovation Fund’s innovation committee, where he brings more than 20 years of oil and gas engineering experience with companies such as Athabasca Oil Corp. and Talisman Energy.
Mr. Volk has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and a Master of Science in Drilling and Well Engineering from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Ginny Roth

Our moderator Ginny Roth is a Vice President and National Practice Lead for Government Relations at Crestview Strategy.
A sought-after political commentator, Ginny advises multinational corporations, Canadian companies, and non-profits on government relations in Canada. Prior to joining the Crestview team, Ginny worked at Queen’s Park and as party organizer for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario and has been a lifelong political activist.
Ginny brings experience as a former staffer and from political campaigns, managing a team of professionals serving clients in every jurisdiction in Canada.
At Crestview Ginny leads the national Government Relations practice, serving as the agency of record for many of the largest food and beverage, consumer-packaged goods, pharmaceuticals, and extractive industry companies in the world.
Ginny holds a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Contemporary Studies from the University of King’s College in Nova Scotia. She is a contributor at The Hub, National Post and a frequent panelist on major television and radio outlets. In addition, Ginny is the recipient of The Peak's 2021 Emerging Leaders award.
