DESCRIPTION:2Spirit & LGBTQ+ Pride\n\n\nThis presentation will engage with participants to explore what they know and what they think they know about 2Spirit and Queer-Trans Indigenous experiences and histories.\n\n\n\nThe presentation will review some of the LGBTQ+ Pride history of Canada. Everyone is encouraged to come with an open heart\, mind and spirit. Topic warning: colonization\, racism\, homophobia / transphobia\, gender-based violence\, residential schools. \n\n\n\nThis session is FREE to attend for Chamber of Commerce members and their employees\, non-Chamber member representatives of our local business community and LGBTQ+ allies\, however advance registration is required. \n\n\n\nRegistration: Please use the registration link on this page to confirm your attendance. Is from Rankin Reserve of Batchewana First Nation of the Anishnabek\, and currently lives in Sault Ste. Marie\, ON. Their background includes social justice\, art and bingo. They have a diploma in Social Service Work - Indigenous Specialisation from Sault College.\n\n\n\nTeddy is a public speaker\, event organiser\, community developer\, artist and drag queen. They were honoured with the title of 2Spirit International Warrior 2021-2022\, by the International 2Spirit Organising committee of 2021.  \n\n\n\nSince 2022\, they have curated\, organised and hosted several drag shows under the stage name Bette U. Wanna of Batchewana with Ever Sick Indigenous Performing Arts & Entertainment aka House of Ever Sick (Baawaating).\n\n\n\nIn March of 2023\, Teddy Syrette (Ozhawa Anung Kwe)\, of 2Spirit Anishnabe Storytelling & Advocacy was awarded the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Indigenous Professional of the Year Award. This award is presented to a person who has made an impact in the Indigenous\, Metis and Sault Ste. Marie communities and in so doing so\, serves as an inspiration to us all.
