What is the Chamber of Commerce?

We are a local membership driven organization comprised of businesses that works to further interests of business. As our mission statement says "We are the recognized voice of business, committed to economic prosperity in Sault Ste. Marie."

We plan to accomplish our Mission by:

  • Advocating on behalf of our member businesses and agencies in conjunction with efforts undertaken by the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce;
  • Educating our members on issues that impact their business;
  • Communicating effectively with our members and always conveying the benefits of doing business in Sault Ste. Marie;
  • Networking with other agencies and individuals that impact business locally and creating opportunities for our members to build stronger business relations;
  • Providing services that allow and encourage our member businesses to succeed and grow.

How do I find a member business?

We have a number of ways to find a member business with the use of the Chamber’s.   “find a member” tool on our website, where you can search by business name or category.  Each listing features a link to the members’ website and e-mail address where provided.    Also linked on the Chamber website is a digital version the Chamber’s Business Directory.  A hard copy of this comprehensive publication can also be purchased from the Chamber of Commerce office.  If you are still in need of assistance while searching for a business, you may call our office and we would be happy to assist you.

Who can attend Chamber events?

Everyone is welcome to attend most Chamber events.   We offer Chamber Member Rates and Non-Chamber Rates at most events.   Anyone who is employed by a Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce member business or holds an individual membership is eligible to attend Chamber events at the Chamber Member rate.

How do I become a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce?

Membership with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is subject to approval by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  It requires the completion of a membership application to be submitted with payment of the pro-rated membership fees.    Those interested in joining the Chamber or for membership inquiries are welcome to stop by our office during business hours, Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5PM and our Membership Sales & Services Officer would be pleased to discuss the membership benefits and provide a package of information.   The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber office is located in the downtown core at 489 Bay Street.   Alternately, you may wish to contact us by phone at (705)-949-7152, or fill out and submit the electronic application found on our website. From there, we will contact you.

Do I need to be a business owner to join the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce?

No, Those interested in joining the Chamber have the option of joining as an individual member.  This is a great way to network and strengthen relationships with others in the community. Membership with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is subject to approval by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

How much are the membership fees to join the Chamber?

Membership Fees are determined based on the type of membership and the fees are pro-rated depending on the time of year of joining.  For instance to join under the general business category, membership fees are based on number of employees.   

All new Chamber Memberships with the exception of Associate Members, Student Entrepreneurs and Retired Business Professionals are subject to a one-time administration fee of which may be waived if you have been a previous Chamber member within the past 5 years.   Also, there is an additional Ontario Chamber of Commerce Affiliation fee applied to memberships.     For specific rates on joining the Chamber please call the Chamber office and speak with the Membership Sales and Services Officer.
