Girls on the Run of Chippewa County announces their third annual Summer Solstice 5K Fun Run

Celebrate the longest day of the year with Girls on the Run of Chippewa County. Join us for a 5K run, walk or jog to celebrate our community, active lifestyles and the summer sun. The family-friendly Summer Solstice 5K Fun Run (or walk) will follow one loop, beginning at Sherman Park, winding through the tree-lined streets of the Lakeshore neighborhood, and finishing back at Sherman Park.

Warm up before the run with Kristi Cleary from Curves, meet this year's Honorary Chair, Harmony Health Food's Kathy Twardy, and stick around after the run to enjoy refreshments, and music by DJ Tony Pickell. All Summer Solstice 5K Fun Run proceeds will directly benefit Girls on the Run of Chippewa County.

A registration form can be found at www.summersolstice5k.org, or obtained by emailing
racedirector@summersolstice5k.org or calling the Council's office, 906-632-8109. Participants can also register from 5-7:15pm at Sherman Park the day of the race. The first 150 participants to register will receive a Summer Solstice 5K Fun Run t-shirt.

The Summer Solstice 5K Fun Run has been endorsed by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness as a quality physical activity event.

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Girls on the run combines training for a 5k (3.1mile) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in those critical pre-teen years and beyond. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being their unique and real selves. Our hope is that every girl believes and can say, "I belong just the way I am." In Girls on the Run, every girl is
number one.
